Mariana first explored watercolors during a break in her medical career in the 1980’s. Over the years, she has participated in multiple art shows and won several art awards in watercolors. In the last five years, her work began to incorporate acrylics and collage techniques. She has studied in multiple venues, including the Corcoran School of Art, the Maryland College of Art and Design, the Yellow Barn at Glen Echo, as well as taking private instruction with many well-regarded art teachers and mentors in the US. She creates realistic and semi-abstract paintings and jewelry that include making artful use of (or “upcycling”) discardable materials.
