Thursday, November 10, 2022: Jeanne Sullivan on Collage

Jeanne Sullivan writes:  My work explores layers and textures using a wide range of papers and collage techniques. Many of the papers are altered by stamping, stenciling, painting, burning, tearing, printmaking and more. Recycled maps, books, music sheets,
textured papers, etc. are often added to the collage.

 

Sometimes my work is inspired by destinations known and but often unknown.
Most, however; invite the viewer to have a closer look to discover layers of
surprises. I am always seeking new techniques, papers and materials to make my
collages more intriguing.

Jeanne studied art at the University of Maryland, furthering her studies with classes and workshops in collage and encaustics. Jeanne is a resident artist at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn where she teaches workshops in collage and collage summer camps for
teens. She is also a member of the Gaithersburg Artists Collective, Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, D.C. (MPSGS), Art League of Germantown (ALOG), and Montgomery Art Association (MAA).

Jeanne also takes her collage approach into jewelry, jars, and reproductions of her work into “Signature Bags”. “Mermaid Masterpieces” highlight miniature collages in oyster shells. Many of her works are also available in giclee prints and framed miniatures.
